Santa Claus isn’t coming to town just yet, but his second cousin The Great Pumpkin may just be getting ready to emerge from his hidden lair in the pumpkin patch. To help welcome him, Daley Plaza is turning into “Pumpkin Plaza,” Friday through Halloween. From 5-8 p.m. Friday, get spooked by fortunetellers, ghost stories and a Haunted Village populated by ghosts and ghouls. Every day through Oct 31; hours vary. Free. Call 312-744-3370, or visit www.cityofchicago.org/specialevents.The Chicago Public Library is also doing its part to make “Octo-boo” suitably scary, with events like Kucha Brownlee’s Halloween Tales. The storyteller spins her web at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 21 at the Harold Washington Library, 400 S. State St. Free. 312-747-4300.
