Joseph Miceli, age 89, of Lake Forest IL, passed away at home on Monday, October 9, 2000. Born in Lawrence, MA November 23, 1910, entered military service serving in the US Marines and US Navy, retiring in 1953 after 22 years of honorable service. He was proud of being a member of The Marine Corps Band, performing for President Franklin D. Roosevelt on numerous occasions at the White House. He was an instructor at the Navy School of Music in Washington D.C. After transferring to the United States Navy Band, he lived and travelled throughout the world during his military career with his wife Doris. After retiring from Naval Service at Great Lakes, Illinois, he formed a construction business in North Chicago and was active in the building trades, along with his wife and three children, until recently. He enjoyed spending the winter months in Pompano Beach, FL. He was a long time resident of North Chicago before moving to Lake Forest. He was a former trustee of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in North Chicago, where he also served as choir director. Past President Midwest Contractors Association and member of Fleet Reserve Association. He is survived by his wife of 61 yrs, Doris, nee Perks; three children, Steve (Martha) of Lake Forest, Michael of North Chicago and Anne (Wes) Trombino of Lake Forest; five grandchildren, Steven (Heather) Miceli, John Miceli, Christine Miceli, Megan Trombino and Michael Trombino; one brother Nunzio; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday October 13, 2000 at Peterson & Patch Funeral Home, 408 North Sheridan Rd, Waukegan, IL. Interment will be private at Ft. Sheridan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to your favorite charity in his memory, would be appreciated.
