This is in response to the Voice of the People comments made by four students from Niles North High School on Oct. 7. I must admit that I am quite dismayed at the overwhelming student apathy toward the presidential elections. Although we do not yet have the right to vote, and we may not see this election directly affecting our lives in any way, I still believe that we should use politics as a means to self-discovery.
By listening to the presidential debates and then having my own subsequent debates with classmates, I have started the lifelong process of forming opinions on pressing societal issues. When else are you going to have such a prime opportunity to discuss the morals and values that shape you as an individual?
So, to my peers around Chicago, take these elections as more than just inconsequential proceedings; make them mean something for you.
