Wilfrid F. White, 87, a 35-year resident of Arlington Heights, formerly of Lombard, retired in 1978 as a research chemist for Abbott Laboratories Inc., North Chicago, after 28 years of service. Mr. White, a Chicago native, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, in ManorCare Health Services, Rolling Meadows. Mr. White received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biochemistry from Loyola University Chicago and completed all coursework there for a PhD in biochemistry, during the 1930s. “He was a tremendous family man,” said his son, William. “He was always there for us. We all have a terrific education because of his sacrifices, hard work and effort. He was happiest at family functions.” Other survivors include his wife, Veronica; two daughters, Mary Mabus and Ginny Lents; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 9:15 a.m. Friday in Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights. A mass will be said at 10 a.m. in St. James Catholic Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights.
