Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

One wonderfully crafted paragraph in your front-page story on the vice presidential debate (“VP rivals get in their shots, keep gloves on,” Oct. 6) gave me special pause: “Contentious from the start, the showdown never lost its relentlessly civil tone, coming across like a fencing match between two gentlemen professionals equipped with equally fast moves and, at times, rapier wit.”

Makes one wonder whether the names on the tickets shouldn’t be reversed: “Cheney/Bush” and “Lieberman/Gore.” It seems we’d certainly have a lot more to choose from, and the choice would be much more difficult. But, of course, that can’t happen. Sad.
