Sophie M. Chyba, 89, died Friday, October 6, 2000, born on October 27, 1910 in Chicago, to her parents Caroline and Albert Antosz. Sophie spent 6 years in Poland from age 10 through age 16 and returned to Chicago to live with her aunt and the Koziol family. Married Matthew Chyba in June of 1934. They were married 40 years until his death in 1974. Sophie was a 52 year parishioner and nearby resident of St. Ferdinand Catholic Church on Chicago’s Northwest side, where she raised her two children. Sophie worked at Conintental Can Company for 30 years and in retirement was president of the local Grandmothers Club, where she devoted her efforts to help children with medical needs. Sophie is survived by her son Richard, who now resides in Carmel, Indiana, and her daughter Geraldine, now a resident of California; also by four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; preceded in death by one grandchild. Funeral service will be on Monday, October 16, 2000 from the Sheldon Goglin Funeral Home, 5935 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago, beginning at 9:15 a.m. then to St. Ferdinand Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. Entombment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in River Grove, Illinois.
