Kenneth L. Moss, 55, of Elmhurst, a high-energy and dry-witted human resources executive who was an avid bicyclist and for six years was an Elmhurst Park District board member, died of complications from spinal-cord surgery Wednesday, Oct. 11, in Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Mr. Moss took bicycle trips all over the Midwest and in Colorado, often covering more than 2,000 miles a summer. Mr. Moss grew up on Chicago’s West Side and earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1968 from Bradley University in Peoria. He went to work in human resources for the Illinois Central Railroad, a job that was interrupted for three years when he was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Moss served mostly stateside in administrative posts, earning two soldier-of-the-month commendations from the Army Field Artillery School. After the war, he worked in human resources for several companies, most recently as chief human resources executive for William Blair & Co. Mr. Moss is survived by his wife, Susan; a son, Kenneth; a daughter, Cara; and his mother, Vicki Gardner. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ahlgrim Funeral Home, 567 S. Spring Rd., Elmhurst. A memorial mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday in Immaculate Conception Church, 134 Arthur St., Elmhurst.
