While viewing this presidential race as an independent thinker, I hear an old question from past elections creeping its way into this election: “Are you better off today than you were eight years ago?”

Economically, even the most partisan would have to admit we are better off.

The American people’s ingenuity, hard work and will to succeed have given this country unprecedented economic expansion over the past 20 years, while presently living in the most robust economy ever.

But the most pressing questions that need to be asked regarding issues people are most concerned about are:

– Is our public education system better off today than eight years ago?

– Is our Medicare system better off today than eight years ago?

– Is our military preparedness better off today than eight years ago?

The answers to these questions are, “No.” This is why change is needed.
