Two mass gatherings will take place Sunday and Monday in Washington: tens of thousands of women advocating an end to violence against women and for equal treatment of the sexes on Sunday, and a demonstration of support of strengthening the American family on Monday.

The National Organization for Women is the spearhead for Sunday’s, called the World March of Women 2000.

“Never has the need for a national, feminist march been more apparent, more necessary,” said NOW President Patricia Ireland. The march “will be the last national mobilization before the elections.”

The next day, the Ellipse, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial and the Capitol will find supporters of the Million Family March, which will be held on the fifth anniversary of the Million Man March.
