Harold William Mathisen, age 78, of South Haven, MI, formerly of Chicago, IL, died Friday, October 13, 2000, at Countryside Nursing Home in South Haven. He was born June 7, 1922, in Stanton, MI, to Peter and Cora Rice. He was their youngest child. He married Lillian Sargis on August 22, 1973, in Chicago, IL. Harold was an engineer working for the Jefferson Ice Company for 35 years. He retired in 1974. Harold served his country in the Army during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #452 in Stanton, MI. Harold attended Maple Grove Bible Church in South Haven. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Bill Sargis, who died in 1985; four brothers: Elmer, Hank, Pete, Art and Norm; three sisters: Ann, Blanche and Ethel. Surviving is his wife, Lillian Mathisen, of South Haven; a daughter, Sue Sargis of Chicago, IL, and a sister, Alice Malik of Stanton. Visitation will be Monday from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Timothy McGee officiating. Graveside services wil be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the North Sidney Cemetery near Stanton, MI. Military honors will be performed by the American Legion Post #452 of Stanton, MI.
