When I marched past the reviewing stand at the Oct. 9 Columbus Day parade, a commentator on WGN-TV’s parade coverage thanked me for my service in the office of Clerk of the Circuit Court and then said: ” . . . which she is vacating shortly to Dorothy Brown.” This misleading statement went unremarked upon by the Channel 9 news personnel who were sharing the microphone with the commentator.
I would simply like to like to point that, of course, the office is not mine to vacate to anyone. There is an election Nov. 7 in which Cook County voters will have the choice between the Democrat and Republican Nancy Mynard, whose candidacy I support. It doesn’t matter that I am for Mynard or that the WGN commentator is for Brown. What matters is that we in this country have the rare privilege of being able to elect our public officials.
