We have all heard about Vice President Al Gore’s supposed credibility problem after he got some of the details wrong in the first debate. When people are evaluating credibility, they should look at which candidate is deliberately evasive in his answers to questions about important issues.

When Gov. George W. Bush was questioned in the second debate about Texas’ ranking next to last in spending on health care for children and families, he completely skirted the issue before him. Mr. Bush listed the dollar amount Texas spent on health care (without any comparison to how that dollar amount stacked up to spending by other states) and sniffed that he does not have a cold heart.

George W. Bush may not have a cold heart, but he appears to have a slippery tongue.
