Ruth Burtis Webster Holmes, born May 31, 1906 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, daughter of Ralph M. and Elizabeth Burtis. Died October 16, 2000 in Naples, Florida. Educated through the Laboratory School of the University of Chicago and graduated from the University of Chicago. She was a Quadrangler. In 1930, she married Dr. James R. Webster, a Chicago dermatologist, and they had two sons who are physicians. After the death of Dr. Webster, she married John Spry Holmes, a Chicago businessman, in 1961 and they moved to Naples, Florida where she resided until her death. Mrs. Holmes was active in numerous charitable and civic activities in Chicago, including the Presbyterian Hospital Womans Board, at Cook County Hospital where she served as Director of Volunteers and as President of the Wesley Memorial Hospital Service League. She was a member of the Womens’ Athletic Club. In Naples, she was active in the Audubon Society and was a member of the Port Royal Club and the Naples Yacht Club. She is survived by her two sons, Dr. James (Joan) Webster, Dr. Stephen (Katherine) Webster and daughter Patricia (Albert) Holmes Buehler; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Burial services in Naples will be private and a memorial service is planned in Chicago.
