I was appalled by your softball treatment of the Chicago area’s ladybug infestation problem (“Ladybug losing luster, Once-lucky charm turning into pest,” Page 1, Oct. 14). At my home by the lake I have to fight hundreds of these tiny pests every day. To see the disgusting lakefront photo in your paper literally crawling with the insects, I wonder why you let off the local entomologists who brought the pests to this area with a simple “these are friendly insects” defense?

If this were a political initiative sponsored by Mayor Richard Daley, the Tribune investigative team would be all over it, wanting to know who made the decisions and who was accountable.

Why are the entomologists who brought this biological-experiment-gone-awry to the area given a free pass?
