Ronald J. Darrus, 67, president of the Norshore Cab Association in Evanston and a resident of the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago, died of a heart attack Sunday, Oct. 15, in Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Mr. Darrus had been president of the association for 13 years, longtime friend Walter Wolff said. “He was constantly in touch every day,” Wolff said. “Like he used to say, seven days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We never closed.” Mr. Darrus started driving a cab about 25 years ago. He had driven in both Oak Park and Evanston. Mr. Darrus enjoyed playing cards in area casinos, Wolff said. “That was his main pastime,” Wolff said. “Straight poker was his thing.” Mr. Darrus is survived by five sons, George, Ronnie, Steve, Anthony and Michael; and two daughters, Kelly and Brandy. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with a memorial service at 7 p.m. in Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 1571 Maple Ave., Evanston.
