Harriett G. “Trudy” Smith, died Saturday, Oct. 14 in Chicago. A native of Spartanburg, SC, Mrs. Smith helped open up the first Sears store in Spartanburg and later retired from Sears in Chicago in 1975. She was a member of the St. John Bostic Catholic Church in Oak Park, IL. Daughter to the late Christopher C. and Corrie Dixon Ravan; wife to the late Joseph E. Smith; survived by her three sisters, Lillie Mae McAbee of Spartanburg, Aurie R. Williams of Sylacauga, Alabama and Viola Koenig of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside Services will be held Thursday 11 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Spartanburg, with Rev. Randall Blackman Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Lanford-Pollard Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association.
