Thomas “Tom” McHugh, age 66, of Mt. Vernon, IL died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000 at St. Lukes West Hospital, St. Louis, MO. He was an owner and operator of McDonalds in Mt. Vernon and Centralia, IL for 28 years until his retirement. He was born on Dec. 16, 1933 in Co. Mayo, Ireland to John and Annie McHugh, nee Groarke, both deceased. Survived by his wife, Florence M. “Flo” McHugh, nee Sheil, of Mt. Vernon, IL; daughters, Sheila (Jerry) Jones of Mt. Vernon, IL and Margaret McHugh of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Annie V. Jones and Thomas “Mac” McHugh Jones; brothers, Hugh (Mary) McHugh of Effingham, IL and John (Catherine) McHugh of Co. Mayo, Ireland; a sister, Kathleen (Patrick) Foy of Co. Mayo, Ireland; also several nieces and nephews survive; preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Michael McHugh and one sister, Peggy McHugh; and a grandson, Patrick Wayne Jones. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held at St. Marys Catholic Church on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 10 a.m. with Fr. Dan Jurek and Fr. Wilbert Iffert officiating. Interment St. Marys Cemetery, Mt. Vernon, IL. Visitation at the Hughey Funeral Home, Friday, Oct. 20, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the St. Marys School, or the ALS Foundation and will be accepted at the funeral home.
