Laura Gee, 38, of Carol Stream, a communications manager at Sears Corporate Center in Hoffman Estates, died of ovarian cancer Thursday, Oct. 19, in her home. Born in Blue Island, Mrs. Gee was raised in Frankfort, where she graduated from Lincoln-Way High School in 1980. She earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism at Indiana State University in Terre Haute in 1984. She later earned a master’s degree in human relations at Loyola University Chicago. During the 1990s, she worked in human resources for Ameritech in Chicago before joining Sears last year. She was active in the Carol Stream Women’s Club, where she helped organize the club’s annual fashion show. “She had a very positive attitude that kept the rest of us going,” said her mother, Nancy Mattsey. Other survivors include her husband, Richard; three daughters, Kelsey, Alexis and Sydnee; her father, George Mattsey; two brothers, Jeffrey and Douglas Mattsey; and a sister, Katherine Schweiger. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Brust Funeral Home, 415 N. Gary Ave., Carol Stream. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Lutheran Church of the Master, 580 Kuhn Rd., Carol Stream.
