Peter G. Makris, age 75, of Jupiter, Florida and LaGrange, Illinois died at Hospice of Palm Beach County, West Palm Beach, FL on Friday morning, October 20, 2000. He was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, son of Constance Gianakos Makris and the late Gust Makris, received his education in Chicago, Illinois. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and served on active duty in Germany. Peter was well-known for his legendary FLAME RESTAURANTS and LORD CHUMLEY’S PUBS in Florida and Illinois. He was also well-known for his exclusive MET CLUB, Jupiter, FL, with membership comprised of nationwide and local notables, and other related businesses. Peter established and hosted the Flame Invitational Golf Tournament which benefited Jupiter Hospital, Riviera Beach (FL) Ambulance Service Paramedics Division and the Adam Walsh Foundation. He also personally supported the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Peter’s legacy is in the memories that were made, careers launched, business deals consummated and celebration of life which was held in his many restaurants. He had a special place in the hearts of his entire family, numerous friends, employees and patrons throughout the country. Peter was preceded in death by his father, Gust Makris; a daughter, Connie Pezzi; and a brother, George Makris. Peter is survived by his devoted wife, Gloria Makris; his daughter, Nanci Makris; his son, Paul (Judy) Makris; two grandchildren, Jessica and P.J.; his beloved mother, Constance Makris; one brother and two sisters, Paul Makris, Helen Sakoulos and Frances Kempworth. There will be a gathering of Peter’s family and friends on Monday, October 23, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Wm. N. Howard Funeral Home, 754 U.S. Highway One, North Palm Beach where a prayer service will be at 8 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 24, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Steve Lipman, Hospice Chaplain, officiating.
