Roger I. Bean, 64, of Elk Grove Village, a retired engineer, died of cancer Thursday, Oct. 19, in his home. Born in Wisconsin, Mr. Bean moved to Elk Grove Village in the 1960s and began working for Sprint-Centel in Des Plaines. He retired in the early 1990s after more than 30 years of service. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, family members said. “He would fish in any little lake he could set his boat in,” recalled his daughter Kim Griffith. Other survivors include three daughters, Marie Jenista, Shelly and Sandy; two sons, Rodney and Tod; four sisters, Janet Smethurst, Helen Stagman, Vivian Frazier and Linda Rose; a brother, Duane; and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
