Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

This is brutal. When will the Bears organization realize it needs to hire a well-respected, big-name coach? I think the organization has spent the money, put some of the right people in place and made an effort toward putting a decent team on the field, or at least it seemed so at the beginning of the year. Now it has regressed back to the level of Mike Ditka’s final years and all of Dave Wannstedt’s, in which the players had no confidence and constantly underachieved.

I feel most sorry for the loyal yet gullible fans who have spent hard-earned dollars for tickets, only to see the typical Bears cycle repeated: hope, feeble attempts to make the team better, and a return to the familiar wallows of mediocrity. Right now I would settle for mediocrity.

Dick Jauron seems to be an intelligent, honest, likable guy who is just in over his head. Release him now to a better situation, bring in an interim coach, and when the season ends, hire a coach someone has heard of. Otherwise Chicago will see its own version of the movie “Groundhog Day,” but this time with no end, just the same cycle.

It’s a good thing they’re not on “Monday Night Football” this year. Dennis Miller would have enough material for the entire season at the Bears’ expense.
