Ernest T. Guy, 79, of Elk Grove Village, a retired director of conventions for the American Bar Association in Chicago, died Saturday, Oct. 21, in Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. Mr. Guy graduated from Michigan State University in East Lansing with a bachelor’s degree in speech in 1943. For the next three years, Mr. Guy served as a paratrooper in the Army 82nd Airborne Division. He participated in the Normandy invasion. He attained the rank of captain and was an operations and training officer. After military service, Mr. Guy returned to Detroit and was executive director of the Michigan Heart Association from 1948 to 1958. Over the next two decades, Mr. Guy worked for health-care associations in Texas and in California. In the 1970s, Mr. Guy took over as executive director of the California Dental Association in Los Angeles. He moved to Chicago in 1975 to work as a meeting planner and later as director of conventions for the American Bar Association. A former resident of Park Ridge, Mr. Guy moved to Elk Grove Village in 1991 after he retired from the bar association. “He was meticulous and organized,” said his son, E. Timothy. Other survivors include a daughter, Cindy Townsend; a sister, Lillian Harding; and four grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Grove Memorial Chapel, 1199 S. Arlington Heights Rd., Elk Grove Village. Services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
