James Rufus Garts, 79, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at Lakes at Litchfield at Pawley’s Island, SC. Mr. Garts was born in Transfer, PA on Sept. 13, 1921, a son of the late Louis Garts and Elizabeth Moses Garts. He retired as Vice-President, International from Wilson Sporting Goods in 1981 after 31 years in sales with the company. Mr. Garts traveled the world for Wilson Sporting Goods. He moved to Pawley’s Island in 1981 from Chicago. Mr. Garts was a member of Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church and a past president of Hospice of Georgetown County, Inc. He was the widower of Priscilla Greer Garts, who died in March. Surviving are a son, James R. Garts Jr. of Memphis, TN and a daughter, Kimberly G. Crum of Louisville, KY; and five grandchildren. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church at Pawley’s Island. Officiating will be the Rev. Patrick J. Stenson. Inurnment will follow in St. Peter Lutheran Church Columbarium at Pawley’s Island under the direction of the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home. A Vigil Service and visitation will be Friday evening from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Georgetown County, Inc., 2591 N.
