Jacopo Peri may not be a household name today, but in 1600 his opera “L’Euridice” was topping charts. In fact, it was the first opera ever — one of many that the early music group Arts Music Chicago will perform excerpts from when the Newberry Library celebrates “400 Years of Opera.” The birth and growth of opera are explored from 1-6 p.m. Wednesday at 60 W. Walton St. $5-$10. 312-255-3510; www.newberry.org.
