John Brodie remained alert after a stroke, and son-in-law Chris Chandler of the Atlanta Falcons says the former star quarterback is starting to regain movement on his right side.
Dr. Khoi Le, a cardiologist, said Brodie, 65, was making “slow but steady progress.”
Brodie won the NFL Most Valuable Player Award in 1970 and led the 49ers to the NFC championship game in 1970 and 1971.
– Linebacker Zach Thomas, the Miami Dolphins’ leading tackler, will not play Sunday against Green Bay.
Thomas has been fitted with a cast for his sprained right ankle. He will be in the cast for a week to 10 days.
– The first week of jury selection in former NFL player Rae Carruth’s murder trial ended in Charlotte with three men and two women on the panel.
Carruth, 26, the former wide receiver for the Carolina Panthers, is charged with the first-degree murder of his girlfriend, Cherica Adams, 24.
– Jurors from outside southeastern Wisconsin will be empaneled for the sexual-assault trial of former Green Bay Packers tight end Mark Chmura. Lawyers for Chmura successfully argued for the change, saying it would be impossible to find an impartial jury in Waukesha County because of pretrial publicity.
Chmura has been charged with third-degree sexual assault and child enticement after a 17-year-old girl accused him of having sex with her without her consent.
