As a former resident of Illinois, I felt a sense of urgency to inform the electorate that George W. Bush is trying really hard to paint a picture of Texas that is inaccurate.
He was elected governor because of his name and nothing more.
I can tell you that the schools in Texas generally cannot compete on a national level–just look at our SAT scores. The principal of our middle school told me last year that my 12-year-old daughter could probably pass the test that is required to graduate high school in Texas. Bush has not been specific about what he has accomplished in our schools because there is nothing to brag about.
He also is not willing to acknowledge the environmental problems that have occurred during his administration due in large part to his refusal to enforce environmental laws already on the books.
What about the executions carried out in Texas against people whose defense attorneys slept through their trials and failed to call any witnesses? Mr. Bush says he sleeps fine at night and has no doubt in his mind that justice has been carried out. I don’t see how this is possible.
