As a parent and grandparent, my biggest concern in the upcoming election is the permanent effect of the candidates on our environment. On this issue, there could not be more difference. Mr. Bush proposes that we dig up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to look for possible oil. If we find as much oil there as the oil companies hope, it would last the U.S. about six months and then it would be gone.

The proposals of Mr. Bush would further delay our consideration of increased energy efficiency, permanently destroy a huge portion of a pristine wildlife refuge and leave us with one less possible oil resource to utilize in the future should we really need it.

Mr. Gore has dealt with a wide range of environmental issues in his long legislative career. Mr. Bush’s record on the environment is clear and so is Mr. Gore’s. Mr. Bush is a horrible choice.
