The City of McHenry Zoning Board has recommended approval of a portion of the Shamrock Farms development but rejected three other parts of the subdivision.

About 100 residents attended a recent public hearing, expressing concerns about project density, compatibility with surrounding property and traffic impact.

Concord Homes wants to build more than 800 homes on 600 acres at Draper and Curran Roads.

The Zoning Board recommended rezoning 346 acres of the development to RS-2. Preliminary plans call for construction of 517 units on that site.

The Zoning Board voted against zoning on three separate sites: Concord Homes is seeking multifamily zoning on 55 acres east of Curran Road and on 26 acres that abut Curran Road. Each site could contain up to 120 units.

The board also voted against zoning 173 acres of the farm RS-1, where, according to the plan, 87 houses would be constructed.
