C. Betty Hallowell, 76, of Lake Zurich, passed away Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000. Born April 13, 1924 in Oklahoma City to the late Eiler and the late Grace, nee Colbert, Hansen, she had lived in Lake Zurich since 1950. She was employed for several years at Jewel Tea in Barrington and subsequently worked at other Jewel divisions in Chicago and Melrose Park. She was active in youth activities, helping organize the Seth Paine School Fun Fair and parents’ playground supervision following the tornado in Lake Zurich, and was active in Scouting. At one time she was a Cub Scout Den Mother and leader of Girl Scout units on three levels. She was a volunteer at Winchester House for several years and Project Linus. A long-standing interest in Art and a Scouting project in ceramics led to the establishment of a home-based ceramics teaching studio which she maintained for thirty years. She was married to the late Joseph Bevans and subsequently marreid Harry C. Hallowell in 1959. She is survived by her husband; daughters, Kathleen Bevans Baleiko (Frank) of Cadillac, MI and Amy Hallowell of Barrington; son, Harry H. Hallowell (Lynne) of Naperville; also surviving are five grandchildren, Ruth Baleiko of Seattle, Kate Baleiko Rogers of Big Rapids, MI and Ryan, Emma and Sarah Hallowell. Visitation will be at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 415 S. Buesching Rd., Lake Zurich, from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a brief memorial at 8 p.m. Interment at Lake Zurich Cemetery will be private.
