Matthew J. Klein, 18, of Streamwood, a student at Elgin Community College, died of multiple injuries Saturday, Oct. 28, in St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, after an automobile collision on Irving Park Road in unincorporated Cook County. Mr. Klein was raised in Streamwood where he recently graduated from Streamwood High School. Mr. Klein was a member of the school’s golf team where he was named most valuable player during his junior and senior years. Mr. Klein also played on two traveling baseball teams. He played for the Streamwood Bulldogs and the Fox Valley Royals for the past five years. This fall, Mr. Klein started his first semester in general arts at Elgin Community College. “He was a good kid,” said his father, Harold. “He wasn’t sure what he wanted to do but he was trying to find out. He was independent and he was thoughtful.” Other survivors include his mother, Nancy; his grandparents, Mary Scherer and Harold and Rita; and two sisters, Christiann Sobczak and Sarah. Services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Countryside Funeral Home, 950 S. Bartlett Rd., Bartlett. A mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church, 397 Fulton St., Elgin.
