As an Illinois-born American who has lived or traveled in 19 Middle Eastern countries since I first steamed into Haifa Harbor on a U.S. freighter as a boy of 11 in 1946, I very much appreciate the Tribune for publishing the excellent article by Ali Abunimah. Far too little has appeared in the U.S. press about the deep frustration felt by ordinary Palestinian families struggling for dignity and their basic human rights under military occupation. There is hardly an American citizen who would not understand and support the Palestinian struggle if their voices could be heard in this country.
