Former Balmoral Racing Club controller Perry L. Kuehr, accused of stealing $1.7 million from the south suburban horse track, was working two jobs trying to raise the bond he knew he would have to pay instead of appearing in court last week, his attorney said.

Kuehr, 46, turned himself in to Will County Sheriff’s police Sunday. Sheriff’s investigators were seeking to arrest Kuehr after he did not show up for court last week. Kuehr was released on $100,000 bond after posting $10,000 Monday, attorney Jay O’Brien said.

Kuehr had not turned himself in immediately because he was working a manufacturing job and a manual labor job, in Florida and Illinois, O’Brien said. He declined to elaborate.
