Emma Jane Snyder, 82, of Des Plaines, a retired crossing guard, died Saturday, Nov. 11, in Baylor University Medical Center in Grapevine, Texas. Mrs. Snyder moved to Chicago, where she worked as a Chicago Police Department crossing guard until the 1980s. For more than 25 years, Mrs. Snyder helped children from Barry Elementary School in Chicago cross at Kilbourn and Diversey Avenues on the city’s Northwest Side. “She loved the children she saw every day,” said her granddaughter-in-law Alexandria Kanelos. Mrs. Snyder, who was a longtime resident of Chicago, moved to Des Plaines in 1993. One of her favorite pastimes was participating in a club of women who met every other week for more than 50 years to play pinochle. Last week she moved to Texas to be closer to her son. She is survived by her son, Richard, and four grandchildren. A visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Meadows Funeral Home, 3615 Kirchoff Rd., Rolling Meadows. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
