I recently took home a paycheck of $17.20 for a day’s work as a juror at the Daley Center. In order to perform my civic duty, the most direct public transportation to the center from my Northwest Side Chicago home involved a Pace bus ride to Rosemont in order to reach the “L.” One hour and 20 minutes later, I reached the center. I performed my civic duty that day as, I expect, had our mayor, our aldermen, our police officers, our firefighters. I do wonder for how long and how well would they perform their civic duties for $17.20 per diem.
