The article “Spatial research is altering the shape of early learning” (Page 1, Dec. 25) nicely summarized some recent work by several psychologists and other educators who have found that spatial skills are important to the learning process of children. It’s a good thing, then, that geography is reappearing from the general fold of social-studies curriculums because geography is all about developing spatial intelligence. It might have been noted that geographers have published quite a body of work on the creation of spatial awareness. By never mentioning geographers or geography, your article seems to suggest that spatial learning is a new field of study emerging from psychology. Not so!
