Ruth Mary Davidson, 79, formerly of Plainfield and a longtime resident of Minooka, whose volunteer work through her church included helping to arrange post-funeral dinners for families of deceased parishioners, died Thursday, Jan. 4, at Rosewood Healthcare Center in Joliet. Mrs. Davidson grew up in the Plainfield area and raised her family on a farm in Minooka. She was an active member of Minooka United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Minooka Women’s Club. “She was always one of the first to step up and assist the families of church members who had passed away,” said her son Jerry. “She was usually baking or at the church preparing for dinner after the services. She was better than most at helping people cope during their time of grief.” Mrs. Davidson especially enjoyed working in her yard. “It was illegal to mow her lawn; she insisted on doing it herself,” said her son. “When she couldn’t handle a push mower anymore, she went to a riding one, and when that one didn’t work, she finally gave in.” Other survivors include three other sons, James, Don and William; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Overman-Jones Funeral Home, 309 S. Joliet Rd., Plainfield. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Minooka United Methodist Church, 205 Church St., Minooka.
