I have some comments on the Jan. 2 editorial “Sex education without the sex.”

Abstinence until marriage is the healthiest lifestyle for human beings.

Well-trained educators teach young people from many perspectives–emotional, physical, logical, etc.

Medical facts are presented to the students.

They leave with an excellent knowledge of the value of abstinence until marriage, from skilled educators trained by high-quality abstinence educational organizations.

Until they received this training, many of the students heard only the false story; “Condoms mean safe sex.”

Your editorial stated, “Nice idea. Now, back to reality.” This decries the fact the roughly half the teens have had sexual intercourse, and more are using condoms, which have their own set of transmission risks. The spread of sexually transmitted diseases among teens worsens.

This is the result of the false promise to our young people that “condoms mean safe sex.” Medical studies demonstrate clearly that condoms do not prevent broken hearts, syphilis, chlamydia, herpes, AIDS, genital warts and a large number of sexually transmitted diseases.

Your editorial gave me the impression that the writer had never attended good abstinence training courses.
