Reading the Sunday Tribune on the last day of the year left this reader with decidedly mixed emotions. I was sad that Jeff MacNelly would no longer be creating “Shoe” but immensely happy that for many years he shared his wit, wisdom and creativity. Apparently “Shoe” will be cared for by two artists who share MacNelly’s astute introspective political humor. Chris Cassatt’s and Gary Brookins’ poignant tribute to Jeff in his own comic strip touched my heart with sadness, and filled the New Year with the happy thought that some men’s dreams endure long after they have left us.
