Albert J. Otto, 97, of Arlington Heights, formerly of Chicago, retired in 1970 as business and credit manager for the former White Motors, a Chicago truck manufacturer, after 30 years of service. Mr. Otto later served as a part-time bookkeeper for the former Superior Aluminum Foundry, Chicago, for nearly 20 years until 1989. Mr. Otto, a Chicago native, died Saturday, Jan. 6 in The Moorings Retirement Community, Arlington Heights, where he had lived since 1992. Mr. Otto was a 1920 graduate of St. Patrick High School, Chicago. He served as vice president and treasurer for the Holy Name Society in St. Pascal Catholic Church, Chicago, in the 1950s. “He was a daily mass communicant at St. Pascal’s from 1948 to 1992,” said his daughter, Judith Hellgeth. “He helped count the money from the Sunday collection after mass there for many years. He was very involved with the church. He was a golf partner with Cardinal [Francis] George’s father and our mother [the late Marguerite] was a bridge partner with [Cardinal George’s] mother. We lived a block away from them.” His daughter Kathleen Miller said, “He used to walk one or two miles a day up to when he turned 97. He was known as `the walker’ at The Moorings. He was mentally alert to the end. He was a wonderful, loving, caring and honest man.” Other survivors include a brother, Arthur; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Highway, Palatine. A mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Pascal Catholic Church, Melvina Avenue and Irving Park Road, Chicago.
