Chester Slarzynski, 93, of Hanover Park, a retired butcher, died Friday, Jan. 5, in St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. Born in Chicago, Mr. Slarzynski followed his parents into the meat industry and worked as a butcher for 40 years in Chicago. After he retired as a butcher in the early 1960s, he worked as a messenger for a bank in downtown Chicago for 10 years until 1972. A resident of Streamwood since the early 1970s, Mr. Slarzynski earned the title of honorary mayor of Ontarioville, which was later annexed into the village of Hanover Park, during the 1970s for his dedication in attending Village Board meetings. “He was a real character,” said his daughter, Barbara Scianna. “He used to sit in his chair on the driveway and wave at all the people passing by. Everybody knew him.” Other survivors include a son, James; a sister, Harriett Rolnicki; and five grandchildren. Prayers will be said at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday in Countryside Funeral Home, 1640 Greenmeadows Blvd., Streamwood. A mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Ansgar Catholic Church, 2040 Laurel Ave., Hanover Park.
