The New York Islanders were shutout 3-0 by Montreal Jan. 2 at home, marking their eighth blanking this season. The Islanders are rapidly approaching their team record of being shut out 11 times during their 1972-73 inaugural NHL campaign. The NHL record for most times shut out during a season belongs to the 1928-29 Blackhawks, who were blanked 20 times in a 44-game schedule.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Avalanche right winger Milan Hejduk scored the 20th game-winning goal of his NHL career in his 202nd game Dec. 29, a 3-1 win over Nashville in Colorado. Hejduk joined the top five fastest active players to score 20 game-winning goals. The list includes: Joe Nieuwendyk (160 games), Pavel Bure (189), Paul Kariya (189), Brett Hull (202), Milan Hejduk (202) and Theoren Fleury (219).

AS THE CROW FLIES

New Jersey goaltender Martin Brodeur registered his 250th career win with a 3-2 overtime decision over the Bruins on Nov. 16 in Boston in just his 462nd game. Only three netminders in NHL history have reached the 250-win plateau faster: Ken Dryden (381 games), Jacques Plante (433) and Andy Moog (455).
