Ruth I. Kohut, age 97, of Winston-Salem, NC, formerly of Chicago and Elmhurst, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001 at Wake Forest University Medical Center, born in Amboy, IL on Oct. 9, 1903, the daughter of Levi and Minnie Smith Searls. She married Emil Kohut Sept. 1, 1928 in Chicago. He preceded her in death Sept. 26, 1991; she is also preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters; she is survived by son Dr. Robert Kohut of Winston-Salem, NC; four grandsons; six greatgrandchildren; and sister Blanche Gascoigne of Amboy, IL. Funeral service Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, 11 a.m. at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy, IL, with Rev. Ralph Carr, Pastor of the United First Church of Amboy, officiating. Burial will follow in Binghampton Cemetery, Amboy. Visitation will be Saturday, from 10 a.m. until time of service in the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the Joanne Kohut Memorial Fund, Dept of Otolaryngology, Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
