It is interesting to read the level of anger that people are expressing about the practice of territorial marking of parking spaces after snowfalls. Lost in this discussion is the year-round practice of this phenomenon, called “permit parking.” This abhorrent system claims public space for private citizens, and it takes place 365 days a year.
But, with the city as the real beneficiary, with parking-ticket and permit-fee revenues, this practice will go on long after the snow is gone.
It is time for the dinette sets to be brought in off the curbs, and it is also time for the obnoxious practice of permit parking to end.
