In the article on heating with wood-burning fireplaces and stoves, no mention was made of the pollution this kind of fuel generates (Page 1, Jan. 5). Unlike car and industry exhaust systems, fireplaces and wood stoves have no filtering devices.
Natural gas may be expensive, but the effects on the health of the people forced to breathe this smoke must be taken into consideration.
One of the reasons home furnaces were switched from coal and oil to natural gas is that natural gas burns much more cleanly.
