Every time I flew to Washington about 15 to 20 years ago, whether it was to testify before Congress or to lobby Congress on various issues, Sen. Alan Cranston was never too busy to see me, despite his 18-hour-a-day schedule serving America as California’s senior senator.
He was re-elected four times by his constituents. His ranking as the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate for most of his 24 years there testified to his stature among his peers in the Senate.
He was my friend, California’s friend, America’s friend. He was a giant among men. I will miss him.
America has lost one of its greatest contributors.
