Enrique Morales, 16, a sophomore at Harvey Academy in Chicago, died Friday, Jan. 5, in Cook County Hospital after being shot in a drive-by shooting the previous day. He was shot while walking with friends not far from his home on the Northwest Side, relatives said. After attending Von Humboldt Elementary School and Ames Middle School, he had been at Harvey for 11/2 years. He often told family members that he dreamed of becoming an architect. “He was very creative,” said his sister, Erika. “If you were sad, he would make you laugh.” His teachers provided the family with a poem he wrote a month ago: “I am the son of all the people/I have ever met/All the things I have ever done/All the places I have ever seen/Bits, pieces, and fragments/You thought it was me you saw yesterday/But you were wrong.” Born in Mexico, he had lived in Chicago since age 4. In addition to his sister, he is survived by his parents, Ernest and Julia; his grandfather, Geronimo Beltran; and grandmothers Augustina DelGado and Maria Felix Mota. Services have been held.
