Blanche O’Connor, 89, of Friendship Village in Schaumburg, was a longtime volunteer at Laurel Hill Elementary School in Hanover Park. She died Friday, Jan. 12, in Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Mrs. O’Connor was a homemaker. Before moving to Schaumburg in 1985 to be closer to her sister, Mrs. O’Connor for many years volunteered in the gift shop at Misericordia Hospital in New Jersey. After moving to Friendship Village, Mrs. O’Connor began volunteering through the Grandparent Program at Laurel Hill School in the 1990s. Once a week until 1999, Mrs. O’Connor helped 1st graders with their reading. “She just loved working with people,” said her sister, Marguerite Spears. “She was a very friendly and outgoing person.” A service will be private.
