In your Jan. 12 editorial “And the real winner in Florida is…,” you stated that if different media-sponsored tallies of the uncounted votes in Florida cause mixed results, “…what would that tell us? That the U.S. Supreme Court made a really smart call in December when it put a stake through the heart of the standardless recounts in Florida.”
What will you say if the recount shows that under any standard you use, Al Gore won Florida? Will you then say that the U.S. Supreme Court made a really stupid call when the justices took the election out of the hands of us, the voters? Even conservative Supreme Court commentators are aghast that the justices decided the election.
