Harry E. “Red” Chapman, 73, of Mt. Prospect, formerly of Des Plaines, retired in 1987 as a general service technician out of the Glenview office of Northern Illinois Gas Co. He worked 37 years for the company. Mr. Chapman, a Chicago native, died Monday, Jan. 15, in his home. He served as an Army field sergeant with the 91st Chemical Mortar Battalion in Hawaii during World War II. “The first thing that comes to mind about him is that he was caring,” said his daughter-in-law Linda Bronars. “He always had a kind word to say. He was very family-oriented. He was non-judgmental. He treated you as an individual and loved you for who you were.” Other survivors include Mr. Chapman’s wife, Elaine; a son, Robert; two daughters, Terri Jenkins and Robin Wegleitner; two stepsons, Tim Bronars and Dan Bronars; and 12 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday in Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday. Mass will follow in St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Golf and Meier Roads, Mt. Prospect.
