The recent articles about drivers not yielding the right of way to emergency vehicles brings to mind a related subject. People like to park in fire lanes at supermarkets or strip-malls, even though the fire lane is well-marked. They always have excuses such as, “I will only be a minute,” or “the nearest parking slot is 150 feet away.”

Local law enforcement is spotty at best, and the merchants don’t make a fuss because they don’t want to lose business. But this could very well slow down emergency vehicles.
